External expertise for your company

Interim

Management

Areas of application

In the past, companies relied on interim managers when there was an acute problem within the company and special additional expertise was needed to solve it.

Interim management is now used in a wide variety of situations. This can include bridging a short-term staffing gap or, in rare cases, even during a change of ownership. They are also increasingly employed in project management, as well as when a company has insufficient capacity, as an alternative to management consulting, or during restructuring.

In medium-sized companies, the use of interim management is also a good way to obtain external expertise and establish it sustainably within the company.

Advantages

Interim management was also developed to make the labor market more flexible – it allows for the short-term hiring of skilled workers without significant administrative effort. It can also be helpful to hear an unbiased external perspective, one not influenced by the work within the company.

Interim managers are not beginners; they have experience as executives and bring a broad range of expertise. This offers companies an opportunity to develop new business areas or optimize internal structures and processes.

Interim managers contribute their experience and outside perspective to projects. This can bring fresh approaches and additional skills to your team.

Respect limits

The success of an interim manager depends on internal support!

The responsible management level should absolutely support the deployment.Otherwise, difficulties may arise in the cooperation of key employees.

If it is not the subject of the deployment, the reliability and completeness of the numerical data is indispensable.

An interim manager has no knowledge of internal information and communication structures and therefore no knowledge of the networks and connections within the company.

A blocking stance from the works council as well as a potential lack of support from the shareholder level should be actively ruled out in advance.

Interim Manager for Digitalization Projects

Wolfram Läpple, Managing Director of smartnumbers

Digitalization is often initially associated with Industry 4.0. This refers to the digitalization of industrial production, which is to be automated and networked using modern information and communication technologies. However, digitalization is also permeating all other areas of a company. Large amounts of data must be collected and analyzed. The resulting insights must be evaluated, and the best possible conclusions drawn for your business. Controlling is often neglected in the context of digitalization, particularly in the financial sector, even though the data already available within the company can be enriched to enable everyone involved to work more effectively. An interim project is particularly well-suited for this initial phase, especially for medium-sized businesses. Following this, a transition to a reduced, fixed-term exchange is highly recommended.
